We arrived just in time to catch a sunset dinner at the Nepenthe. Great intro to Big Sur, dinner perched over the ocean.
Views from Nepenthe. I loved the twilight hitting the tops of the mountains.
Another beautiful view from the restaurant terrace
More restaurant views of the fog rolling in from the ocean
My favourite guy
Couple snuggled up as the cold fog rolls in
Last view of the Nepenthe at night
Testing the waters - Mik at the start of our hike up Ewoldsen Trail, a popular trail in Julia Pfeiffer state park.
Trail follows a pretty spring fed creek up
Me - my favourite hiking toque is a bit overkill, even in Northern California. I put it in our backpack pretty quickly after this picture
Can you find Mikail?
Pretty steep up the canyon
Our first view of the ocean at the ridge on our hike
But still some more to climb
Long steep fall down - had to stomach my vertigo
Finally at the very top
After our decent we did a little side trip through a tunnel under highway 1
Pretty sweet post tunnel view. It's dry season so the falls are pretty small, but I was thrilled the fog finally broke and we had deep blue waters.
Me and Mikail - photo courtesy of German tourists.
Pretty bay - wished there was an easy way down, but I'm guessing the state park doesn't want tourists trapped down there at high tide
Palm trees almost make me think I'm in the Caribbean and not the rugged north cali coast. Redwoods, palm trees and cactus. Love it here.
We saw lots of wildlife out at dusk on the trails of our hotel. Here's some deer we met on the way to our dinner.
And some wild turkeys
